Oh. The fishing. Ohhhhh....

So, yes I am a fish-a-holic. Yes I live to fish. Yes I intend to bore the holy living crap outta all y'all with my stupid fishing pictures. Deal with it. We left at like 7 in the morning on a boat called the "Ilwaco Indian" with a captain whose name was Dale and a deckhand whose name I can't remember, but they were both very nice. I just want to point out that of all the people chumming (barfing their guts out) over the rail, I wasn't and B wasn't either. In fact, I was the only female on the boat and I didn't get remotely ill. I found that somewhat ironic in a giggle-worthy sort of way. Of course, my sympathy floweth over and blah blah.

I had just dropped my line on what is obviously a choice day to fish.

I believe this may be one of 3 times the sun actually emerged and by that point I was so obsessed that I was annoyed at it for making me take one hand off the pole to get my sunglasses. I was constantly looking at the water which was pretty dumb considering that my hooks were about 50 feet down.

This is the large ugly Lin Cod that I caught. They are really cool looking fish with big sharp teeth that are very efficient for biting the sucker who is stupid enough to go after that hook with his hand. Our deck hand wasn't that stupid and, thank God, neither am I. This particular beastie measured in at about 19 inches so it didn't meet the 24 inch size requirement that would render this a "keeper." That's fine with me, I still managed to catch the ill-tempered booger. Lin Cod fight like the dickens (was he a fighter?) so they are super fun to fish for although they are harder to get your hooks into than the Rock Bass were, hence the tub with like 18 bass and one cod.

Closing in on the end of the trip and this is what our catch bucket looked like. Without all the uneatable parts you are looking at about 30-35 lbs of fish. That's roughly 35 punds of filets! The Rock Bass are very fun to catch also and the bigger ones put up a decent fight. The cool part was that we had 3 hooks on every line and the bass would happily attatch themselves to two of them. Several people got a bite and reeled in only to discover that there were two fish on their line! We estimated that some of our bass came in at over 5 pounds each and 20 inches long! That's a big damn fish, in case you were wondering! Posted by Picasa
